Apologies

Posted by Fondly-Scarlet - August 3rd, 2024

A few weeks ago a Misty drawing I posted was unpublished by the moderators. I'm assuming the art was mistaken to be a depiction of her as younger than I intended and got flagged as a result. It surprised me at the time because her proportions were similar to how I've drawn her before and I always make sure to add extra adult curves to characters like her to avoid any confusion and I apologize if anyone got the wrong idea otherwise. I respect the moderator's decision to unpublish the art, and In the future I'll be extra careful to make it abundantly and visually clear that she and other pokegirls I draw are 18+.

(I thought I should open with a little note: This isn't about accusing you of anything, it's more of an 'internet history'-lesson. Also: I am neither a moderator, nor a person who can draw stuff. So take my input with a pinch of salt.)

Not to get too much into it, but at some point somebody n the internet got it in their head that any kind of complaint in regards to character age could be weaved away by drawing young looking female characters with giant... (rated "E", let's keep it tame...) with a generous development of the 'fatty tissue that’s cushioning the chest'. From my limited insight into the matter I'd say that that approach did pretty much nothing favorable for them. ("Disclaimers" saying "All characters are 18+" also tend to be rather meaningless/ineffective, in my personal observation/opinion.)

But I think moderators all over the interwebs became more aware of other indicators for age - such as facial features and general bone structure. And they tend to err on the side of caution. When I look at your art style (which is less focused on facial details) I'd imagine said caution was probably the main reason it was removed.

If you have the time and emotional energy to update the piece in question you could show it to one of the Art Portal moderators* first, to get some feedback on that front.

I do like to draw things soft and round when it comes to faces and my style in general most of the time so I'll need to keep stuff like that in mind as well in the future.

Sounds like a recipe for success: I have it on good authority that many people 'like' soft and round things... ;3
